On March 22, 1948, Iowa State College (University) sponsored a 90th anniversary celebration in honor of the founding of the college, which occurred on the same date in 1858 when the charter act establishing a state agricultural college became law. The Iowa State Men's Gymnastics program was created in 1961 and competed for the first time in 1963. The program only had two coaches over thirty-two seasons: Ed Gagnier (1963-1983) and Dave Mickelson (1984-1994). They completed seven undefeated seasons (1970-1971, 1973-1975, 1977, 1981), won ten Big 8 Conference titles (1965-1967, 1969-1975) and three NCAA titles (1971, 1973-1974).
